17,000 people milled about Marina Bay Sands last Thursday and Friday - ooh-ing and aah-ing at cute dancing robots, jabbering away excitedly about deep tech and AI, and nodding in agreement as industry experts shared their thoughts on Gen Z and media consumption in this day and age. These people, bound by a shared love and appreciation for disruptive innovation and tech, were there to attend Innovfest Unbound 2019, jointly organised by IMDA, NUS Enterprise and Unbound. We sent our UX/UI Designer and Digital Strategist there to scope out the scene - here are a few snippets of what went on over those 2 eventful days.
This adorable robot won the hearts of many with its smooth dance moves - it could swivel and sway to the beat of a Top 40 EDM tune as well as some Chinese-tribal-sounding melody. This takes "The Robot" to a whole new level.
Here's our UX/UI Designer Jacinda ordering coffee from ELLA, the robotic barista, who even "waves" at you once your order is ready for collection! The coffee turned out slightly bitter but it was a cool experience nonetheless, almost Black Mirror-esque.
Of all the booths we dropped by, this had to be one of our favourites. Most local millennials would have heard of this chatbot with a distinctly Singaporean sense of humour. We chatted with the founder of Bus Uncle as he took us through his latest offering - an equally adorable chatbot named Heritage Granny. If all chatbots were this fun to talk to, we would probably never want to speak to another human customer service rep ever again.
Let the (startup pitch) battle begin! This was particularly exciting to witness, as it was on the main stage and each startup only had 3 minutes to win the judges over. We quickly understood what made a pitch successful and what made it less likely to capture the audience's attention - important things to take note of, especially since it will be our turn at RISE next week!
One of the highlights of our Innovfest Unbound experience was learning about branding from the big boys like Netflix, Facebook and SIA. Many of the speakers stressed the importance of 'personalisation'. Nowadays, people expect experiences to be enhanced and tailored to their specific preferences. They want to feel special, and it's up to us to help them feel that way. Butleric's Everyday Business Super App does just that - with personalised recommendations and rewards based on order history and games to keep customers entertained, the customer experience is elevated.
Whoever thinks that Singaporeans lack creativity and talent ought to visit Innovfest Unbound - we were so impressed by the poly and uni students who were exhibiting their very own startups. Some of them were barely 18! (It's their world, we're just living in it.) But honestly, we're excited to see what this generation will come up with next!
We left truly inspired and refreshed - and ready to apply some of the lessons we learnt to our own work! Thanks Innovfest Unbound - till next time!
At Butleric, we wholeheartedly believe in supporting local SMEs. If you think that our AI-powered, cloud-based solutions can help take your business to the next level, we'd be happy to talk to you!
